Instead, one has to install these from the app store. QNAP does not actually ship its units with a lot of the security features like the antivirus app pre-installed. There are a few items that pop up that are important. QNAP Security Counselor Choose Security Policy While basic is the default, our sense is that STH readers are going to opt for Intermediate or Advanced. One challenge with QNAP NAS units is that they are designed to get updates via repositories on the Internet, meaning they need to have at least some egress access, unlike an IPMI interface. Most STH readers will use some sort of firewall/ NAT setup, and often a VPN to get to the storage network. In terms of basic security steps, the first should probably be simply not directly connecting the NAS to the Internet. Let us show some examples of basic security steps to take. The company also says the most vulnerable are those directly connecting the NAS units to the Internet, and that is true of most systems. I have attached a text file of a Speccy summary of my PC.

No points for guessing the Windows 10 was responsible. I have an barebone PC NUC with a LAN connection to the NAS and it read fine.
Windows Network Diagnostics suggested I turn on the computer or device and connect it! Haha. I tried mapping the network drive, surprisingly enough I can see in the Drive field that my folders still exist in their corresponding drive letters, but they don't show up under the NAS! When I attempt to connect them I get a Network Error message, specifically Error code: 0x80070035. I'm no techie by any means so please have patience and bear with me. I'm hoping someone might have a suggestion or idea that I can try. I tried but failed to find a working solution. Also found out that the NAS QNAP-TS412 no longer exist under my Network section. This morning I found out the sound didn't work. Unfortunately, yesterday in a particularly good mood I installed Windows 10. I was quite content with my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS.

I know this because the upgrade icon stated for a while now that it was ready to download and install - but I wasn't.
